Terms of use

These terms apply to Vidrotation at vidrotation.com (the "service"), run by Yann Kost, Switzerland ("we"). By creating an account you accept them. If you use the service for a company, you confirm you may accept them for it.

1. What the service does

You pick a template, fill its steps with your own clips, images, text and sound in the editor, and render the result as a video you can download. Captions can be added to a clip; the words and their timings are then produced automatically by a speech-recognition model and are as good as the model hears. The preview in the editor exists so you can check the result before you spend credits on a render, and you can correct caption text before rendering.

The same service is available through the API to accounts that have an API key. The API reference at /v1 is part of these terms for such use.

2. Your account

You sign in with an e-mail address and a password, or through Google or GitHub where offered. Keep the password to yourself: anyone who signs in as you can spend your credits, and you are responsible for what happens under your account. An API key is a password too; treat it the same way and revoke it on the profile page if it leaks.

You must be at least 18, or use the service with the consent of a parent or guardian.

3. Credits and payment

  • The service is paid with credits, bought in packs. A new account starts with 50 free credits so you can try a render; we may change that number for new accounts, and free credits cannot be paid out. The packs are:
    PackCreditsPrice
    Starter1,000€10
    Studio2,750€25
    Agency6,000€50
Prices are shown before you buy and include VAT where it applies. Payment is handled by Stripe; we never see your card details.
  • A render costs credits according to the work it takes: the amount of footage sent to the renderer and the length of the film. The render dialog shows the number before you confirm. That number is reserved when the render starts and settled to the actual cost when it finishes, so the final charge can be a little lower than the estimate, never higher. If the render fails on our side, every reserved credit comes back. Rendering the same project again costs again. The editor preview is free.
  • Credits do not expire. They are tied to the account they were bought under and cannot be transferred or paid out.
  • Credits are not refundable, with three exceptions: unused credits within fourteen days of the purchase, refunded to the payment method used on request; the cases in sections 7 and 10, where we stop the service or change these terms; and special cases we may recognise at our discretion, such as a prolonged outage that kept you from using what you paid for. Spent credits are never refunded. A refund you ask for must come to at least €15; smaller amounts are not processed, which means the Starter pack is not refundable. Write to contact@vidrotation.com from the address of the account.

4. Your content

You keep every right to the media you upload and to the videos you render. You give us only what is needed to do the work: to store your media, send it to our transcription and rendering providers, put the film together and hand the result back to you. The templates, the editor and the site are ours; a rendered video is yours, the template it came from is not.

You confirm that you hold the rights to upload each file and to have it processed this way, including any rights of the people in it and of the music you add. You must not upload content that is illegal, that infringes someone else's rights, or that shows sexual abuse or violence against real people. We may remove such content and close the account.

5. Files and how long they stay

Media you upload for a project stays on our server for 48 hours, then it is deleted and the project's slot is empty again; a rendered video stays downloadable for 48 hours after it is rendered. Download what you need in that time; deleted files cannot be recovered. Media you mark as Keep moves to your library and stays until you remove it, within the 3072 MB the library holds. Projects themselves stay until you delete them or your account. The privacy policy describes this in full.

6. Limits

We set limits on file sizes, on the length of clips, on how many renders and transcriptions an account can start in a day and on how often the API can be called, to keep the service working for everyone. The editor and the API reference show the limits that apply. Automated use is allowed through the API, within those limits.

7. Availability and changes

We run the service with care but do not promise it is available at all times or free of errors. We may change the templates, the prices and the features. A change of price applies to purchases after it; credits already bought keep their value.

We may stop the service altogether. If we do, we give at least thirty days' notice by e-mail to the accounts with unused credits and refund those credits.

8. Liability

We are liable for damage we cause by intent or gross negligence. For anything else our liability is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the event, and we are not liable for indirect damage such as lost profit or lost data, to the extent the law allows such a limitation. Nothing here limits liability where Swiss law does not allow it to be limited.

Automatic captions are produced by a model and can be wrong. The service is not made for content where an error in a caption could cause harm, such as medical, legal or safety instructions. Check such captions yourself before publishing them.

9. Closing an account

You can delete your account yourself on the profile page, at any time. Remaining credits are lost with the account unless one of the exceptions in section 3 applies, so spend them first. We may lock or close an account that breaks these terms; remaining credits are then lost.

10. Changes to these terms

We may change these terms. The date at the top says when they last changed. For a change that matters to you, we tell the accounts with unused credits by e-mail at least fourteen days before it takes effect. If you do not agree, you can ask for your unused credits back within that time.

11. Law and courts

Swiss law applies, without its conflict-of-law rules and without the United Nations Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods. The courts at our seat, Basel, Switzerland, have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, the courts that mandatory law gives you remain open to you.

These terms are written in English; the English text is the one that counts.
